I hope that you have enjoyed my story. I am now 13 years old and in the seventh grade. I still don’t like playing most sports and I still prefer to “hang out” instead of “work out,” but I do go for a brisk walk at least one hour every day and I do my curl ups and push-ups every night. In my most recent fitness test at school, I beat all four fitness goals again, including 75 curl-ups in 3 minutes against a goal of 52.

While getting fit, I also started learning more about proper eating habits and nutrition. For example, did you know that a normal bowl of cereal at breakfast can be as much as 750 calories? I now eat just 1 ¼ cups of cereal every day, which is only 250 calories. That is 3,500 calories less per week. Guess how many calories are in one pound of body fat? 3,500 calories! My favorite food books are the Eat This Not That series, but there are lots of other very good books too. Just be sure to find at least one that you like.

When I wasn’t fit, I used to hate doing a lot of fun stuff with my friends and family. Now, I love to play tennis and go on long bike rides and hikes with my mom, dad, and brother. When I wasn’t fit, I didn’t have much energy for studying or doing my homework. Now, I am an honor roll student and I love school. Getting fit was one of the best things I have ever done. I hope that this book will help you to get fit too.

Yours in fitness,
Abbie Werner
